Goal today :
For Tilly: To indicate both articles on the track. To lengthen the food drops to every 10 steps.
For Me: To give her some line when she is going the right direction and not move my feet. To move up the line when she is unsure.
Tilly did these things well:
1. Picked up BOTH articles on the track!!
2. Worked through some of distractions
3. Was very focused
4. Did her first turn really well but I forgot to put a marker on the second and she kinda blew past it. I did stop to tell her she had gone too far but not sure that was the right thing to do.
What I'd like to improve:
I need to work on my timing. My coordination is still not right when it comes to letting the line out and then moving my feet. This is very apparent at the beginning of the video. I also need to work on recognizing when I need to move up the line to support since I can see myself hesitating and being unsure.
I kept this track short and easy since we were moving up to a drops every 10 steps for the first time, and because I wanted to try and focus on what I was doing without worrying about where the track was too much. We went around a soccer field with two 90 degree left turns.
Time laid: 5:35 pm
Time ran: 5:38 pm
Length: ~ 128 yards
Temperature: 58 F
Conditions: Sunny with 8 mph (S) wind with 18 mph gusts and Humidity 41%.

Myriam, that was excellent! Be happy! She tracked well, and I think your line handling was exactly where it should be at this point in both of your education. You are clearly thinking about it, not hanging on in a death grip but both letting it slide and gathering it up. Stopping her WAS the correct decision—she’s not experienced enough yet to recover a lost track. and when she found it—she FOUND it! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks Judi. I wasn't sure I made the right decision to stop at that turn so good to know that was ok to do. Sometimes things happen during a track and I'm still green so I tend to questions my decisions...Right now I am not being super strict about letting the leash out IF she is going in the right direction but ultimately we want her going in a straight line with me following behind. Not sure if I need to be more strict about this or not. My gut is telling me let her go for now if she is heading the right way and slowly over time become more and more demanding of a straight line as she gets more mileage under her belt. Is that the right thing to do?
